The temple of Lord Jagannatha at Puri observes a number of festivals and ceremonies through out the year. The author has provided a detailed account of festivals associated with the worship of the Lord as recorded in the Purana. Besides she has also described a unique ceremony of the Birth and Death of the Lord of the Universe known as Navakalevara. The author has also provided valuable information of the historical geography of the then Orissa and a vivid account of kingship, dress, ornaments, customs and rituals of the contemporary society, as enlightened in the Purana.
