Acharya Tulsee  passage of 84 years and 62,000 miles on foot, came to an end on June 23, 1997.  Acharya Tulsi was born in Sam. 1971 in Ladnun (Raj.), became  a monk in Sam.1982 and an Acharya of the Terapanth sect in  Sam. 1993. He initiated more than 776 monks/nuns. He has been an accomplished poet,  author of over a 100 books, as well as a distinguished religious leader.

He started his Anuvrata movement in Sam. 2005. He has been a proponent of Jain unity regardless of the sectarian differences. His message was not just for the jains but for the entire humanity.

In Sam. 2037 he created a new rank of apprentice monks  "samanas/samanis" who are allowed to travel overseas. He created  a "Jain Vishva Bharati" institute in Ladnun.

Dr. Radhakrishnan in his "Living with Purpose" included him in  the world's 15 great persons. He was given the title "Yuga-Pradhan" in a function officiated by President V.V. Giri in 1971.

During his tenure he was greatly aided by Muni Nathmal, later called "Yuvacharya Mahaprajna". Tulsi relinquished the leadership to Mahaprajna in 1995. Mahaprajna is the originator of "Preksha-Dhyana".

Acharya Shree Tulsee Expired ( Devlok ) on 23rd June' 1997 at Gangasahar ( Rajasthan State )

Tulsee in eye of Acharya Mahaprgya

Acharya Sri Tulsi’s personality is a complex one, subsuming within itself pairs of opposites. In it we find established the significance of the doctrine of non-absolutism (Anekantavada). Radiantly shining like the sun, and yet more amiable than the moon – it can be viewed from both angles. In the history of the religious world for the past many centuries, his is a rare personality.

Acharya Sri Tulsi’s life-story marks a new blossoming of Indian consciousness. So long a monk-life, so prolonged a reign as Acharya, such a long padyatra (foot journey), such extensive contact with the public, such an effort for bringing out an awakening among the people, so much exertion, such spiritual development, such an amount of literary creation, the shaping of so many personalities – all this is in fact, most remarkable. The story of Acharya Sri’s life is a huge piece of writing lit with the alphabet of surprises. After having read it, a man experiences new longings, new inspirations, and his life is suffused with a new energy of light.

In the historical tradition of human effort, one seldom comes across the instance of such a heroic person who, disregarding his own comforts and convenience, lives a life of public welfare.

Acharya Sri has given a new form to religion. In this scientific age, there is need of such a religion which can offer a solution to such a mental tension originating from a materialistic outlook, a religion which can make people experience a joy not to be got from material objects, and which can awaken in men the consciousness of morality. Acharya Sri recognised the need of the age and presented Anuvrat and preksha Meditation for its fulfillment. This is a religious revolution which is quite capable of maintaining its identity even in an age of economic and political revolutions.

In some people’s opinion, this may constitute a contrariety, too. I seek no argument or counter-argument. I rest contented in myself. I feel that I have nowhere violated Acharya Sri’s gift to me. Both faith and logic I got from him; he believes in both. Had I looked at Acharya Sri with the eye of faith only, his life story would not have exceeded ten pages. My feelings would have been amply exercised within these bounds. On the other hand, had I looked at Acharya Sri with the eye of logic, the story of life would have been much protracted, but it would have lacked the animating spirit. Faith requires no elaboration, but it abounds in spirit. In logic there is much elaboration, but the spirit is lacking. Acharya Sri’s life is characterised much more by spirit than by mere detail. But I have not written this book for Acharya Sri. The life of the common people is characterised much more by the matter than spirit. I have also not written this book for them. Then there is the question of my faith too. Therefore, this book contains matter as well as spirit.

Acharya Sri prefers the essential spirit to mere detail; he gives greater importance to the underlying truth than to expansive elaboration. I have used fewer details in telling the story of his life. He has accomplished a lot, endured many conflicts, made great efforts for character-development, journeyed much, thought a good deal and done many other works. All these great doings could be spun out at great length. But I see the greatest good in the essential spirit. Therefore I have been content with verbal economy.

What Acharya Sri has given me is something very great. As compared to it, my effort is very small. But at times the small is more cherished than the great. I believe that this is my mostinsignificant tribute will not be any less pleasing to the public. The incorporation of the small in the great nev er occassions any surprise. However, the incorporation of the great in the small is certainly a remarkable development.

The life of a spiritual person is not generally very eventful. It can be portrayed in brief. Acharya Sri’s life contradicts that tradition. There is to be found in it a chain of events. Each event is touched by a lively personality. The compilation of all the events is not at all possible. The aim of the present work is merely to point in that direction.

To be introduced to the story of Acharya Sri’s life on the occasion of the fiftieth year of his Acharyaship, is to bask in the fresh rays of a new light. To be acquainted with oneself, to be acquainted with one’s problems and the method of resolving them. Only that life is really significant whose light beams illuminate each and every particle of our earth. In the present biography, material from various sources has collected. The foremost among these sources is, "Acharya Sri : Life and Philosophy". I wrote that book in the occasion of the silver jubilee Function. The present work may be said to be a companion-edition of the same. In its organisation, Muni Sumermaliji, Sri Chandji, Dulehrajji, and Dhanajayji have worked with great devotion. I acclaim their efforts.
