MEMORABLE QUOTES FROM ACHARYA SHREE TULSEE
Money can buy books but not knowledge; it can procure medicine but cannot ensure health, can get servants, can build temples but cannot inspire devotion.
It is made easy to avoid many frustrations and the maladies resulting from them if an atmosphere of freedom prevails in the family enabling its members to discuss their problems without any constraint.
Politics is important but it is not everything. Those who run the government do important work, but that again is not the only worthwhile thing to do. More important than it is the character of a nation and one who builds it is far greater than a mere politician.
It is not one's money but one's heart that makes it for prosperity. Likewise it is not poverty that makes for indigence.
For solving our problems we have to elevate ourselves to godhead.
I have a vision of the future, but I do not believe in over-optimism. The outlines of a society in which people live according to ideals of Anuvrat are very much before me, but to change them into a colourful picture more time and energy would be needed, besides refining the technique of adjustment. Anuvrat has always been committed to the carrying out of its objective. It has brought within the reach of millions of people the basic code of conduct for development of life. Thousands of them have changed the course of their life by excepting it. I thinking it has played an unexpectedly big role in bringing about a revolution of ideas. But according to me a revolution is incomplete unless it emerges in a concrete shape before the people. The objectives of total revolution and anuvrat are different. Therefore, I do not think the former can take place using the platform of Anuvrat. But I am sure total revolution can fructify whenever and wherever the Anuvrat philosophy is effectively reflected in the life of the people.
Collective action for propagating the ideals of anuvrat notwithstanding one cannot ignore its basic premise, viz. the reform of the individual. Those who cry themselves hoarse in a support of revolution of total revolution must not forget the importance of reforming the individual. Every man, woman and child will have to undergo a process of self-amelioration in order to face any unforeseen eventuality. This is precisely what anuvrat aims to achieve.
Mutual tolerance and when necessary, a willingness to sacrifice one's interests is the best recipe for bringing about the desired reform in the relations between the young and the old.
To invite risks is one thing; to avoid doing something for fear of
risks is another. Can one ever conceive of life without risks? In fact the bigger
the task, the greater the risk. So why shirk action merely because it entails risks?

Only he deserves to be called young who does not lose his balance in moments of crisis.
The same rock can act as a hindrance or a stepping- stone.

My expectations from the younger generation are these three:
Simplicity and purity of conduct, behaviour, food and living.
Strong organization eschewing all disintegrating tendencies.
Strong determination to put an end to the tyranny of traditions that have weighed down
society and rendered it moribund and decrepit.

Individual desire and ego are perennial human traits. Whenever they have been conjoined with power there has been a general increase in war hysteria to the repetition of bloody and violent events in history. The reason why moral values have been held in the highest esteem is that they transform this evil combination of desire, ego and power into courteous humility. The history of human race has been far more honourable and full of freedom during periods of such transformation. Among the moral values I am referring to, the most important is self-control i.e the power to restrain one's instincts. The slogan of Anuvrat is sanyamah khalu jeevanam. Life is nothing but self-control; it is difficult to believe this though. But a slightly deeper analysis will reveal that all those who kill others or themselves lack self control. All those who live and let live have self-control. Society has far more need of selfcontrol than finance. It is logically proved fact that the power and freedom of an individual as well as of an insititution directly depend upon the amount of restraint each one of them can exercise. One might like to believe in material and economic power but it would be dangerous to believe exclusively in them. This must not be lost sight of . The direction of progress in modern world lacks balance. The development of material power will never be irksome if it is accompanied by the development of the power of self-control. Any culture and civilization which is externally rich but internally hollow is bound to go utterly bankrupt one day.
